Pittsburgh FIRST

About Us

FIRST Western & Central Pennsylvania (formerly “Pittsburgh FIRST“) operates under the umbrella of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a 501(c)(3) public charity. We share the mission of FIRST: “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” For more about FIRST, see www.firstinspires.org.

The Greater Pittsburgh Regional is the local FIRST Robotics Competition tournament for teams in the FIRST Western & Central Pennsylvania region.

Our Region, FIRST Western & Central Pennsylvania, covers 41 counties, from the Ohio border to just west of Harrisburg.

In 2014, the regional event moved to the Convocation Center at California University of PA. Since it was no longer located in the city of Pittsburgh, but in the Greater Pittsburgh area, our event name changed from the “Pittsburgh Regional” to the “Greater Pittsburgh Regional.”

(FIRST Robotics Competition teams in eastern PA are part of Mid-Atlantic Robotics, along with NJ and DE, and runs a separate tournament model.)
